Should Christians Make New Year’s Resolutions?

2017 has finally arrived. It’s that time again when we make resolutions, pledging what we will or won’t do this year, or what we will do better. But is creating resolutions a godly habit?

The Bible doesn’t say anything about making resolutions at the start of the year but it does urge us to examine our lives regularly, and to seek God’s help to become better persons every day. The Bible says, “Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord” (Lamentations 3:40).

As we begin this new year, let’s take a pause and ask God to show you what He wants you to do in your life in the coming days. Resolve to grow closer to Christ every day, and with the help of His Holy Spirit to “pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness” (1 Timothy 6:11).
